Managing Eportfolios
Managing the use of e-portfolios requires the skills and knowledge of a range of areas, namely, the development and implementation of strategies relating to e-portfolios, enabling e-portfolios to be accessed by authorised parties and a working understanding of what is involved in using e-portfolios and any likely issues.
EPortfolio Administration
The administration role enables access for those authorised users, providing advice when required to users and keeping up to date with any new developments associated with the e-portfolio. This role may also involve support for assessors/moderatorand teaching staff by putting learning materials online, updating information relating to learner requirements and qualifications.
Administrators will also be required to maintain online learner records and generate a range of reports, which can be often customised to the requirements of the learning provider.
Technical Support
Training on the use of the system needs to be provided regardless of the e-portfolio system used. Most systems are web based and therefore do not need centre specialist technical support unless it is run on the centre VLE otherwise support may be provided by product supplier and awarding bodies.
Working with learners
Most e-portfolios will allow for customisation and personalisation both for the learner and for the provider. Assessors/moderators and teaching staff should use the e-portfolio to devise assessment and teaching plans, communicate with learners either collectively or individually and be competent to use the management tools provided by the particular system.
Staff will be required to use the e-portfolio to manage learners progress, as well as supporting learners with the collection, uploading and storing of a range of evidence types and formats.in line with qualification standards.
Assessment and verification
The role of the assessor/ moderator/ verifier is to make sound and consistent judgements about the acceptability of evidence. T.These roles carry a responsibility to understand the use of e-portffolios and how these will impact on the process of ensuring validity authenticity and sufficiency of evidence produced by learners.
